The Black Widow
This portrait was always going to be black and white, hard hitting, and pretty much influenced by “Sin City” and the like.

This was a bit of fun. Something to prove I don’t just “work” and I have a real life outside the studio, or something like that. A horror cosplay shoot organised by the wonderful Hazel Riddle, friend, photographer and a general tormentor.
Meet Wayne Myers, photographer. A fairly simple statement perhaps, but I’m proud to have been of help during his journey from student, right through to fully fledged, knowledgeable, and very capable photographer in his own right.
Model portfolio shoots are often daunting for both the model and the photographer. Often, it’s the first shoot for a model wanting to start a new portfolio. For the photographer, it can be a lot of work building the relationship and helping the model find their feet and feel comfortable.
First things first. I very rarely get to shoot anything purely for myself. Everything tends to be client driven. This shoot, however, was organised by one of my crew, Wayne Myers, and I think it was basically to stop me being so grumpy. Well, for a few hours at least!
Meet Joe Harrison. A gentleman who has just celebrated his 100th 100 break in snooker. I was asked by a local working men’s club to create the image, which would be framed and hung on the club wall.
Some of you will recognise Wayne, one of the photographers working with me. Yeah, I know he looks a little younger here, and there’s a reason for that. This was pre beard, and it was eighteen months ago when he qualified.
Some of you may recall a good friend of mine, Rachel Mason, Educator at Alan Howard Training. Rachel has worked on several shoots with me before, including the cover for the 2013 Lencarta catalogue. Anyway, Rachel asked me to go along to a training event, where a new hair colouring system was to be launched. Take a few headshots, a few of the entertainment and
Montego Bay. The most amiable bunch of folks I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with in quite a while. A little off the wall, and all very different, and all so very, very talented. I first met them in October 2012 when I photographed the Captive Music live final, held in Preston’s 53 Degrees club. I’m not a fan of live music. It’s loud!
This is the quickest, cheapest and simplest portrait setup available, and especially effective for more mature clients.
